THE BASIL P. CALOYERAS CENTER FOR MODERN GREEK STUDIES in cooperation with THE HELLENIC UNIVERSITY CLUB & THE AMERICAN HELLENIC COUNCIL presents Current issues before the United Nations a lecture by The Honorable Andrew Jacovides Former Ambassador of Cyprus to the United States The Ambassador will discuss topical issues before the United Nations of great concern to Greece and Cyprus. Specifically, his talk will include Greece's membership on the Security Council, the Anan Plan for the resolution of the Cyprus problem, and Cyprus' membership in the European Union. Ambassador Jacovides, the most senior member of the Cyprus Foreign Service upon his retirement, was ambassador of Cyprus to the U.S., Germany and the United Nations. He has extensive experience in the political, legal and economic fields at both the bilateral and multilateral levels. He has taught Public International Law at the New School for Social Research in New York and has lectured extensively at law schools, universities, think tanks, and foreign affairs councils. His publications include articles on U.N. Peacekeeping, the Law of the Sea, the Commonwealth, the Diplomatic Corps in Washington and the International Criminal Court.
