Begun in 1972, the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG) Project at the University of California, Irvine, constitutes the first effort to create a comprehensive databank of Greek literature from Homer (8^th century BC) to the Fall of Constantinopole (1453 AD). Since 1974 the TLG has been converting all existing ancient texts into computer format, and disseminating them on CD ROM (compact disk). Twenty five years later the TLG databank contains more than seventy three million words of electronic text and is being used by thousands of scholars around the word.

The lecture by Prof. Maria Pantelia will include an overview of the research and technological work currently done at the TLG as well as a presentation of its future plans and direction.
